ENS client John recently walked a staggering 11 miles for Havens Hospices and said he “walked his legs off” taking part in the Havens to Havens Walk.
At 70 years of age, John is a regular walker and likes to get the bus to places with his support worker and then walk back to keep himself fit and active. He started walking for charity when he turned 60 and has taken part in many events raising money through either his entrance fee or sponsorship.
The Havens to Havens Walk is a flagship fundraising event for the charity and takes part every year. The 5.5-mile route snakes through some beautiful scenery in Southend passing through Belfairs Woods, along Prittlebrook Greenway and then on through Priory Park, to finish at Fair Havens Hospice. For those who still feel lively and have plenty of energy left, the walk returns along the same route back to Little Havens Hospice in Thundersley.
John finished the 11-mile trek in 4 hours on a lovely sunny day and was proud to be wearing his Havens Hospices t-shirt to support the fundraiser. He was also awarded a medal for finishing the walk which he can now add to his growing collection.
Not only does John walk for charity but he also rides. Following his walk, he recently completed the London to Southend bike ride which is 52 miles. Including his travel there and back, he rode for a whopping total of 70miles!!
Well done, John, keep up the good work and we look forward to hearing about your next charity adventure.
